Many people start their trip with a few days in Marrakech or Essaouira and then head for the coast. It's an easy journey. There's no train to Agadir, so you take a bus, a shuttle, a shared taxi or a private transfer. Each one is a trade-off between money, comfort and time. The routes below work for both Taghazout and Tamraght, which are about 3.5 km (2 miles) apart.
From Marrakech
The distance is about 170 miles (270 km), mostly on the A7 motorway over the edge of the Atlas Mountains, then down to Agadir and up the coast. By car it takes about three and a half hours.
By bus: the cheap, comfortable way
- CTM leaves from its station on Rue Abou Bakr Seddik in Guéliz. Supratours leaves from the train station area, so it's the easy option if you arrive in Marrakech by train. The two stations are separate, so check which one your ticket is for.
- Both have several departures a day. The trip to Agadir takes about three to three and a half hours and costs from about 130 dirhams (€12), depending on the company and the service.
- Both arrive in Agadir, not Taghazout or Tamraght. From there, take a taxi or bus 32, which stops in both villages. See taxi and bus prices.
- Buy tickets online, or at the station a day ahead in busy periods. Large bags may cost extra.
By shuttle: straight to the village
The Souk to Surf shuttle goes from Marrakech to Taghazout and Tamraght, takes surfboards and drops you in the village. It costs €25 per person and takes about four hours. Book online and check the departure times before you plan your day around them.
By shared grand taxi
Shared grand taxis run from Marrakech to Inezgane, near Agadir, for about 100 to 150 dirhams (€9–14) per seat. The trip takes about three and a half to four hours. Ask locally which taxi rank they leave from that day. It's cheap, but the car is full, luggage goes on the roof, and you still need a second taxi from Inezgane to the coast.
By private transfer
This is the easiest option: door to door in about three and a half hours. Prices start at about €120 per car, so it works well for three or four people sharing. Your guesthouse can usually book one. You can also contact one of our local taxi drivers.
Driving yourself
The A7 is a good, quiet motorway. Tolls between Marrakech and Agadir add up to about 80 to 100 dirhams (€7–9) for a car, paid in cash at the booths. See renting a car.
From Essaouira
This is one of the prettiest drives in Morocco: about three hours south on the N1, through argan country and past Tamri, then down the coast to Taghazout.
- Shuttle: Souk to Surf also runs from Essaouira to Taghazout and Tamraght. It costs from €18 per person and takes about three and a half hours.
- Bus: CTM and Supratours run from Essaouira to Agadir, not to Taghazout. Plan to take a taxi or bus 32 from Agadir.
- Private transfer or car: This is the most flexible option. You can make a detour to Imsouane for a surf session on the way.
Which one should you pick?
- On a budget, traveling light: CTM or Supratours to Agadir, then a taxi or the bus.
- With a surfboard: The shuttle or a private transfer.
- A group of three or four: A private transfer. Split between four people, it costs about €30 each, roughly double the bus. In return, you travel door to door with no change in Agadir.
- Flying in? Read which airport to fly into first. Agadir is much closer. From there, see Agadir Airport to Taghazout and Tamraght.
