Ramadan 2026 in Taghazout and Tamraght

Ramadan 2026 fell across late February and most of March, right in the middle of the main winter season on this coast. That made it a useful month to understand properly: the visiting surf crowd was still here, but the daily rhythm in Taghazout and Tamraght changed around it.

It was not a month when the villages shut down. Most cafés and restaurants remained open, and surf schools kept their usual rhythm. Taxis and shops did too. If you arrived expecting everything to be closed during the day, you would have found a more ordinary working day than that.

Quieter in the water, not empty

The practical difference was most noticeable at the surf spots. There were often fewer local surfers in the water during daylight hours, as people fasted from dawn until sunset. For visitors, that could mean a little more space in some line-ups.

It did not make February and March a quiet season overall. These are still high-season months for foreign visitors, and the usual travelling surf crowd was in town. Ramadan changed who was in the water and when; it did not turn Taghazout into an empty coast.

For anyone choosing a time to come, that combination was part of the appeal. The winter season was still running, while the daytime pace among local people was a little calmer.

The day changes after iftar

The more obvious shift came after iftar, when people break the fast at sunset. Around 7 or 8pm, Taghazout and Tamraght got busier rather than quieter. Moroccan families and friends went out for cafés and met outside, changing the feel of the villages after dark.

It was worth planning around that rhythm rather than treating it as an inconvenience. Daytime remained straightforward for practical things; evenings belonged more clearly to local social life. A visitor could still eat out and move around, but should be aware that the evening was an important part of the month for the people who live here.

What did not change

Accommodation prices did not change for Ramadan 2026. It was not a discount period, and it was not a reason to assume that rooms would be easier to find during a high-season month.

The two days of Aid, following the end of Ramadan, were the point to plan for separately. They are days when local life takes priority, so visitors should check arrangements directly with their accommodation and any businesses they rely on.
