About Banana Point

Banana Point is a mellow right-hand point at Aourir, at the mouth of the river where the old banana plantations grew. On smaller days it is one of the friendliest waves on the coast: easy to read, with a soft shoulder that suits surfers moving on from the beach to their first point break.

It works best on a moderate swell and from low to mid tide, and surf schools use it often, so expect company. The bottom mixes sand and rocks near the point. Enter from the beach on the inside of the point rather than over the rocks, and give way to the surfer closest to the peak.
